Magento Hosting Requirements: For Large E-commerce Stores

Magento (now Adobe Commerce) is a powerful platform built for large e-commerce projects. Amazon, Nike, Coca-Cola, and other major brands run on Magento. But Magento is much more complex than WooCommerce or Shopify β€” server resource requirements are high and configuration requires special knowledge. This article covers Magento-appropriate hosting and technical requirements.

Server requirements

Magento 2.4 (latest) minimum requirements: 4 GB RAM (8-16 GB recommended for real performance), 4 CPU cores (8 is better), SSD disk 50 GB+ (scale with catalog size), PHP 8.1 or 8.2 (8.3 not yet supported), MySQL 8.0 or MariaDB 10.6+, Elasticsearch 7.x or 8.x (or OpenSearch), Redis (for caching), Composer 2.x.

Shared hosting isn't enough for Magento. You need a minimum VPS or dedicated server. Cloud hosting (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) or specialized Magento hosting providers (Nexcess, Cloudways, MGT Commerce) are good options.

The two Magento editions

Magento Open Source β€” free, but you handle all functionality and hosting yourself. Adobe Commerce (formerly Magento Enterprise) β€” commercial license $22,000+/year. B2B features, advanced analytics, support.

Hosting options

Self-managed VPS β€” $80-300/month (cloud or dedicated). Full control but you handle configuration. Magento-optimized hosting β€” Nexcess ($60-500/month), Cloudways ($100-1000/month) β€” specifically optimized for Magento. Adobe Commerce Cloud β€” Adobe's official solution, $50,000+/year.

Main configuration

Cache backend β€” Redis. In Magento config app/etc/env.php set cache_types to Redis. Speed improves 5-10x.

Full Page Cache β€” install and configure Varnish. For anonymous visitors page load drops to 50-100 ms.

Elasticsearch β€” required starting with Magento 2.4 instead of MySQL search.

Image optimization β€” WebP or AVIF format, Magento PageSpeed extensions.

CDN β€” using a CDN for Magento static assets (Cloudflare, KeyCDN) is mandatory.

Sayt.uz practice

Among Sayt.uz clients Magento is rare β€” 3 active sites as of January 2026. Reason: shared or standard VPS hosting doesn't run Magento efficiently, clients choose international providers like Cloudways or Nexcess. On Sayt.uz Dedicated server tariffs Magento can be configured, but our customer base mostly chooses WooCommerce and custom solutions. Tip: if you have 1000+ SKUs or expect 10,000+ orders per day, Magento is a good choice. Otherwise WooCommerce is enough.
