Since 2013 ICANN launched the new gTLD program, approving 1200+ new TLDs since then. This created many previously unavailable options: .xyz, .app, .dev, .blog, .cloud, .fun, and others. About 30 million domains have been registered in these new gTLDs.
The most popular new gTLDs
.xyz — since 2014. 7+ million domains, generic, for any brand. $1-15/year (one of the cheapest premium gTLDs). Alphabet (Google's parent) uses abc.xyz.
.app — since 2018. Managed by Google. For mobile and web apps. Mandatory HTTPS — a security plus. $15-25/year.
.dev — since 2019. Managed by Google. For developers. Mandatory HTTPS. $15-20/year.
.blog — for bloggers and content creators. $25-35/year.
.cloud — for cloud services and SaaS. $20-30/year.
.fun, .design, .digital, .marketing — niche-specific, $10-30/year.
Tips for choosing a new gTLD
Clear niche — if you're a developer, .dev makes sense. For an AI startup, .ai. This signaling matters.
Spam reputation check — cheap TLDs like .xyz and .top have poor spam reputations. This affects email deliverability.
SEO-neutral — Google officially treats new gTLDs and .com equally, but in practice backlinks and trust on .com are higher.
Brand alias strategy
New gTLDs aren't necessary for the main brand but are good for brand protection. Example: brand.com main, brand.app and brand.io as add-ons (so others don't grab them).
Sayt.uz practice
6% of Sayt.uz clients use new gTLDs (.xyz, .app, .dev most common). Mostly tech and startup projects. .xyz is the cheapest and most widely used. Tip: pick a new gTLD only when your niche is clear (.dev for developers, .app for mobile, .blog for blogs) — for general business stick with .com.
