Bought a domain but the site won't open? DNS may not be configured. Let's understand what it is.
What is DNS?
DNS (Domain Name System) is the phone book of the internet. People remember the name sayt.uz, but computers talk to each other via numeric IP addresses. DNS converts a domain name into an IP address.
How does it work?
When you enter a domain in the browser, it asks the DNS server "which IP does this domain have?". DNS replies, and the browser connects to that server — the site opens. All of this happens in under a second.
Main DNS records
- A record — links the domain to an IP address. The main record.
- CNAME — points one domain to another.
- MX — defines which server the domain's mail goes to.
- TXT — a text record: used for SPF, DKIM and site verification.
How long does a DNS change take?
After changing a record, it may take from a few hours up to 24 hours to spread worldwide.
