A domain is like a rental: it needs to be renewed every year. What happens if the term expires?

Right after expiration

As soon as the term expires, the site and the attached email stop working. Visitors cannot open your site.

Grace period

After expiration, usually a few weeks of "grace period" are given. During this period the domain can be renewed at the normal price and everything restored.

Redemption period

If the grace period passes, the domain enters the "redemption" stage. It can still be restored, but with a significant extra fee.

Full loss

When redemption also ends, the domain is released and anyone can register it. At this stage your domain cannot be recovered.

How to prevent it?

Check your domain status in the dashboard.
