.online and .site are two new gTLDs approved by ICANN in 2015. The original purpose — a universal alternative for any brand. Today .online has 1.5+ million registrations and .site 1+ million worldwide.
.online vs .site
.online — internet-oriented branding. Conveys "online business" or "online service". Example: market.online, learn.online.
.site — universal "website" meaning. Not tied to any specific niche. Example: photo.site, jane.site.
In practice the difference is very small — both are used as brand aliases or secondary domains.
Advantages of .online and .site
Cheap pricing — $5-25/year, same as or cheaper than .com.
Availability — many well-known words are gone on .com but free on .online and .site.
Short and readable — many short .online and .site names aren't registered.
Drawbacks of .online and .site
Low trust — new TLDs are unfamiliar to users. They may ask "What's this?".
Spam and malware association — low prices on new gTLDs mean spammers use them too. Some email filters flag .online and .site emails as suspicious.
Branding not at the professional level — for business clients, .com leaves a better impression.
Pricing and registration
.online — $5-25/year (Namecheap $4 first year). Via Sayt.uz 220,000 sum/year.
.site — $5-25/year. Via Sayt.uz 199,000 sum/year.
Who .online and .site fit
Personal portfolios or blogs (john.online, mary.site). Temporary landing pages and campaign sites. Brand alias — if you're brand.com, grabbing brand.online too protects reputation.
Sayt.uz practice
1% of Sayt.uz clients register .online or .site — mostly personal portfolios and small startups. Rare for main business use. Tip: usable but not for main brand. A good alternative when .com isn't available, but SEO and trust take time to build.
