Form design best practices: building forms that convert

โ† All articles

Form design is a critical element. A good form lifts conversion; a bad one drives users away. Up to 80% impact on conversion.

Number of fields

Fewer is better. An 11-field form converts 120% worse than a 4-field one. Only what you need.

Label position

Above the input is best. Inline saves space but disappears. Float label is modern.

Input design

Border, 12-16px padding, 5-8px border-radius, clear focus state.

Placeholder

An extra hint, not a label replacement.

Required/optional

Use * for required or \"(optional)\".

Input types

email, tel, number, url, date โ€” proper mobile keyboard.

Autocomplete

email, name, tel, address. The browser fills in automatically.

Inline validation

On blur event. Not while typing.

Error

Specific, friendly. Under the input, red.

Success

Green check icon.

Submit

Specific text. Loading state.

Privacy

\"Your data is safe\". SSL. Privacy policy link.

Mobile

48px height, 16px font (no zoom), single column.

Accessibility

Label-for, focus state, keyboard navigation.

Analytics

Hotjar form analysis. GA4 form events.

A/B testing

\"Submit\" โ†’ \"Get my free quote\" +32%.

Sayt.uz

Minimal fields. Inline validation. Mobile-friendly. Conversion 12% (industry 5-8%).
