A Separate Domain for an Ad Campaign: SEO and Trust Considerations

When a new promotion launches, marketers often suggest a separate domain. It offers a memorable name, avoids the main site's complex structure and gives designers full freedom. But to search engines every new domain is a site starting from zero, and to customers it is an unfamiliar address. Weigh the trade-offs first.

How search engines see a separate domain

Your main site has built trust over years: other sites link to it, its pages are indexed, it ranks for your brand name. A new domain inherits none of that, and during a few weeks of campaigning it will struggle to rank organically. A campaign page on the main site, such as misol-mebel.uz/aksiya, benefits from the domain's accumulated trust, and links to it keep helping the main site after the campaign ends.

Duplicate content is another risk. If the separate page repeats product descriptions from the main site word for word, the search engine must guess which is primary and sometimes guesses wrong. Point the campaign page to the main page as canonical, or keep it out of the index:

<!-- If the campaign page duplicates a main-site page -->
<link rel="canonical" href="https://misol-mebel.uz/divanlar">

<!-- Or if the page exists only for ad traffic -->
<meta name="robots" content="noindex, follow">

Customer trust and ad policies

An unknown domain makes some visitors suspicious, especially when it asks for payment details or a phone number, and many people know fraudsters favor fresh promo-named domains. A separate page should clearly show the full company name, address, a mention of the main site and contact details. Ad platforms also have rules: many require the displayed URL to match the domain of the final landing page, and redirect chains can fail review. Read your ad system's current destination policies before launch.

Example: a Tashkent furniture showroom's holiday sale

A furniture showroom runs misol-mebel.uz and plans a holiday discount on sofas. Marketing proposed the catchy misol-aksiya.uz for radio and street banners. The team registered the domain but built no separate site; it redirects to the main site's /aksiya page. The banner address stayed short, customers saw the familiar main domain in the address bar, and all SEO value stayed on the main site.

# .htaccess for misol-aksiya.uz
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://misol-mebel.uz/aksiya?utm_source=banner&utm_medium=offline [R=302,L]

A temporary 302 is deliberate: after the sale the domain may point elsewhere, and browsers should not cache the old target.

When a fully separate site makes sense

Even then, tie the site to the parent brand with the logo, company name and a mention of the main site.

What to do with the domain after the campaign

The most common mistake is forgetting the domain once the sale ends. Its address lives on in posters, old ads, social posts and links from other sites. If it expires and someone else registers it, those visitors land on a foreign or malicious page. Renew a campaign domain for at least a year or two and point it with a permanent 301 to the most relevant main-site page:

# After the campaign: permanent redirect
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://misol-mebel.uz/divanlar [R=301,L]

If the domain hosted a full site, redirect each important page to its closest equivalent rather than everything to the home page.

Questions to settle before deciding

Will the project outlive the campaign? Do customers know and trust the main brand? Who will handle SSL, renewal and monitoring for the new domain? Most often the best answer is a memorable extra domain redirected to a campaign page on the main site. Buying a domain and attaching it to hosting in the sayt.uz cabinet takes minutes, but plan its future beyond the sale.
